I’ve been chastised by someone for referring to the subject of the carry-on in Rathkeale as “The Magic Tree Stump.” Apparently it is “disrespectful” to refer to it that way. Whereas it is perfectly normal to see a religious icon in a tree stump

I can’t see it myself. But when I looked closer, I did see a certain resemblence to someone…..

Emperor Palpatine.

Emperor Palpatine.

  1. I’m from rathkeale originally (have been away a few years now) and I made fun of the tree stump etc..cringed when I heard it on the news and laughed at the idea of it….until my mother brought me a photo of it..the ones online do not do it justice, the tree rings form an image of a woman in robes holding a baby, it has depth etc all created by the positioning of the tree rings. after all the fun I made of it I did end up say “holy shit” when I saw the photo..and a hail Mary for the first time in 15 years.

  2. Let people believe what they want, live and let live. But i have heard that it was shaped that way by the men who cut the tree.

  3. i think its a load of horseshit i live in rathkeale and think its putting a worse name on our town
