I enjoyed Arthur Matthews’ and Paul Woodful’s new comedy show based on the panicky midlands TD of the title. I don’t know if you could call it great satire, but its portrayal of the mediocrity and ridulousness of Irish political life is pretty accurate, and it had a few genuinely funny lines (“Most people think the Nazis invented marketing. They did a good job, but they didn’t invent it. Padraig Pearse did.”), especially when he met his constituents in the clinic. Anyone ever involved in politics will attest to how accurate the scene is. The theme song made me laugh out loud, and Ardal O’Hanlon and Owen Roe also play nicely together. I’ll be watching more.

  1. I thought this was great.
Its not slapstick its more documentary style. I thought it made Politicians look like even bigger eedigits.
There are a few amazing lines it it.

Padraig Pearse invented Marketing… People think it was the Nazi’s, No not them, in fairness they did a good job 🙂

It’s the little things that will bring you down in the end… Remember Nixon the Phone bug. JFK… The Bullitt.
How many people didn’t like “Ted” or “The Office” after the first Episode. Stick with it. Its will be a Cult Classic.

  2. thought it was pure crap and will not watch it again, looked forward to watching it but was very disappointed, ah well Thank God for Father Ted 🙂

  3. I agree that it isn’t “Yes Minister” but I suspect an Irish version of YM would paint the Irish electorate in quite an ugly light!

  4. Couldn’t disagree more, I thought it was a typically lazy effort by RTE. Go for the slapstick instead of some genuinely corrosive wit. There’s a great comedy to be made out of our bumbling politicos but this isn’t it.
