We have only two political parties in Ireland. Really.

We might as well just flip a coin.

We might as well just flip a coin.

In the run up to the last general election, there were two dominant themes. The governing faction had to negotiate with the EU, IMF, ECB whilst cutting spending on programmes we could no longer afford and implementing humiliating decisions handed down from others. The opposing faction attacked them for letting us be humiliated by foreigners and cutting spending that hurt people reliant on other people’s taxes.

Now, one “change” election later, we have, eh, two parties. One is a governing faction, which is cutting spending on programmes we can no longer afford whilst implementing humiliating decisions handed down by foreigners. The opposing faction is attacking the governing faction for letting us be humiliated and cutting spending that hurts people reliant on other people’s taxes.

Thank God we don’t live in one of those one party states where nothing changes, eh?
