From today’s London Times.
Why is it that in Britain, with first past the post, they have a choice, whereas in Ireland, with PR, we don’t?
Labour in Ireland has reserved seats in the party for the trades unions, in effect, for public sector workers. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s perfectly proper for a party to identify whom it speaks for, and Labour should be commended for being so open as the public sector party.
But who puts the interests of private sector workers first? Labour isn’t anti-private sector worker, it just puts their interests second to public sector workers. Who does the reverse for private sector workers?
Where is our party?
